Daybook
April 20, 2008
I think one of the best decisions I’ve made while starting up Ozbon as a limited company is to get myself a big A4 day-to-a-page diary for use as a daybook. It’s something I’d never really thought about before, but over time it’s looking like it will save me a lot of time and hassle.
Basically, it’s not just a diary for who I’m meeting and where, I’m also using it to keep track of where I’ve been and what I’ve done. That’s going to be a god-send when it comes to the financial year-end, as I’ll simply be able to look back and see what was being done for business, whether that’s mileage, work, meetings, or even when I invoiced a client. (and/or when they paid!)
It also means that if I’m ever audited by HMCE, for example, I can go back and prove what mileage I claimed at any time, and why. It’s all already dated, along with destination, reason, and mileage. I won’t even need to spend x hours with AA Routeplanner or TomTom continually doing route-plans and mileage checks. That in itself has got to be a winning reason for keeping a daybook.
