Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR)

Education

Ozbon initially started working with OCR in September 2006 for a three month contract, providing technical support to the New Media Team (NMT), helping them deal with a backlog of issues from the previous three months. When their existing CMS died, the site had had to be relaunched in a "slimmed down" version, which had a number of serious technical issues.

Since then, the contract has repeatedly extended, finally coming to an end in March 2008. (although we do still do technical consultancy work for OCR on request) Throughout this time, we have been heavily involved with the redesign and restructure of the company's main website, www.ocr.org.uk , including a complete redevelopment of the underlying structure of the site, removing the Dreamweaver templates the site was initially based on, and instead making it far more easy to update and maintain by use of ASP and include files, as well as coming up with a fix to the web-server that enabled the pages to maintain their previous site rank and results in Google etc., while also enabling server-side functionality to add power and sustainability to the site. This has enabled OCR to have a massively improved website, with increased internal and external customer satisfaction and an ever-increasing number of users without the added expense and workload of migrating the complete 15,000+ page site into a new content management system.

At the same time, we have created and developed several smaller pieces of functionality, including form-processing systems, a promotional database, and worked on a specialised email promotional tool. The form-processing systems are particularly complex, as they have been written to address the lack of a database on the main site, and now do validation of the form inputs within the OCR page, then send the data to a second site which handles the processing of the form in PHP, adding the inputs to a database for future reporting, then generating and sending an email to the correct end destination for each registration, before returning back to the main OCR site.

In addition, we have worked on other OCR microsites such as OCR Nationals and GCSE Science, where we have added administration sections and tasks to the sites, added and maintained forums where necessary, and also written additional functionality to allow centres to register their interest in teaching the Nationals qualification.
